About the Class: Who says it isn't written in stone? We will craft "booklace", a unique, stone-covered mini-book as a pendant for a necklace! Pages will be made of mica with words cut from vintage texts to add thoughts to complement the cover. Back covers will be made of leather with an opportunity for an image on the inside covers. Then we will create the metal binding for the book, which will also be the attachment to a chain. (Metals provided are all of copper; if you want to use another metal, please bring with you.) Basic supplies (stone covers, leather, texts, mica, wire, chain) are provided. Feel free to bring what you might like to use for yourself. We will have plenty of time to create our own novel masterpiece! Bring your own lunch, if you desire.
Supplies: I provide basic supplies including stone cover, leather, mica, vintage text, copper wire & chain
Students must provide: exacto knife, Straight edge/ruler, self-healing pad to protect table, scissors, awl for punching holes in mica, pencil, images
handmade papers (I will have some, too), close-up glasses, if you need them.
Artist Bio: Kate Stockman believes she was a monk in a previous lifetime. She finds deep peace in stitching books. Kate is also an assemblage jewelry artist (focusing on vintage sterling) and a collage/paper artist. She and her wood-turner husband Andrew live in a little cabin in the woods outside of Saluda. Stephen Hernandez hails from Baton Rouge, LA. His interest in art began at a young age and continued as he dabbled through class work at Louisiana State University (LSU). In 1985, co-founded Glasmosaik Studios, a stained glass studio where I continued studying the craft and worked to develop a signature style.
For the last 10 years, he have been focusing on fused glass art, creating pieces that are both visually interesting and functional. He currently reside nested among the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside Brevard, NC, where the natural beauty all around that inspires his work. My fused glass pieces are characterized by their vibrant colors, intricate patterns, manipulating chemical reactions between different color glass, and use of different surface textures. He attempts to combine technical skills with creative vision to produce pieces that are both visually stunning and structurally sound.
His goal is to create art that is not only striking but also evokes emotion and tells a story. The process of fusing glass is a dance between control and letting go, and the end result is always a beautiful and unique piece that can be appreciated for its aesthetic and technical qualities.

Did you know that 40 minutes of creating art lowers the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) in the body? Art really does heal, and it's fun, too. Join us on the third Sunday of every month to play with collage art and take a short creative break at our Sunday Collage & Play. No experience necessary.
Creating art is just playing with materials. Most of us might already have our supplies ready and organized, but just don't have or take the time to play and create! This free Sunday session offers the time, space, and supplies to encourage playing and creating to anyone who is interested in exploring the paper collage medium.
The instructor will provide an embarrassment of collage supplies (including magazines, catalogs, glue sticks, etc.) to get folks started. Attendees can bring something they're already working on, their own images, magazines, etc. (please also bring your own scissors!) Prompts will be offered, but it's completely up to you what you want to collage! This is a casual gathering to bring community together to create art and everyone is welcome to join! Bring a friend!
This event is free but requires registration. There is a $5.00 usage fee that will be collected.

About the Class: Relationships are one of the most rewarding — as well as the most frustrating aspects of our lives. Whether in intimate or work settings, the quality of our relationships has an enormous impact on the quality of how we live, our self-esteem, and our careers. Yet, we often find the behavior of others baffling — even if we have known them intimately for many years. Often, the things we do not understand in others are the greatest sources of problems and conflicts in our relationships. Clearly, the better we know ourselves and the people in our lives, the more harmonious and satisfying our relationships will be. This is a workshop for Couples. Couples will work together to connect through Somatic Art. We will access areas where the individual may be blocked from their artistic expression and how the couple may find a deeper connection through artistic communication. Using tools from EMDR/Bilateral Stimulation, Enneagram Typing/Character types, and IBSR Somatic mapping each participant will create a deeper connection with themselves and others.
We will remove unhealthy stress and open up the artist's palette to physical expressions of color, mental descriptors, and balancing of the art/science part of our brain, or organized side while opening it up to the fully self-expressed side. We will remove barriers to creativity and discover what artwork best suits you.
We will help participants recognize personal strengths as well as to uncover the blind spots that they bring to their relationships. If you want to improve your relationship with a spouse, child, friend, business associate, or family member, this Workshop will be invaluable.
What skills, experience or pre-requisites are required for this class?
Pre-req's teacher will send some materials via email for participants to fill out at least 24 hours before class. Participants will bring, tissue, a journal, favorite pens, pencils, and markers.
