About the Class: Mara will teach  you how to create a "secret sauce" mix that helps to create harmonized paintings in color and design!  This class will include handouts, lectures, demos and hands on student participation to create two 10" x 10" paintings.  Students will learn how to properly prep their canvas, apply and mix acrylic paints.  Students will create "blind contour" drawings of a still life which will be painted and transferred to their canvases.  Mixing formulas and special paint applications will be demonstrated.  Each student will go home with two completed 10" x 10" canvases ready to hang.  Some experience with acrylic painting is helpful but no required.  No drawing skills needed.

Supplies: Instructor will provide all materials. Students can bring an apron, any favorite painting brushes, colored pencils and plastic gloves and a branch of live foliage, for example Eucalyptus.  

Artist Bio:  Mara Viksnins experience in art spans three decades of study and practice.  She is particularly interested in abstract expressionism and her work ranges from pseudo-realism to abstraction.  She has been active in galleries along the Gulf Coast of Florida and is a member of the Art League of Henderson County and maintains two gallery spaces - one in Hendersonville and one in the River Arts District, Asheville.  Her main focus is nature with the mountains of North Carolina as her biggest inspiration.  She often uses texture and mixed media in her work to highlight and add an expressive accent to her work.  She has taken nation-wide courses from famous mixed media instructors and occasionally delves into collage and watercolor.
