Flag Books with Kate Stockman
8/17/2024
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST

Event Description

Instructor:  Kate Stockman

Date: August 17, 1pm - 5pm

Location: The Art Place Gallery Classroom

Fee: Members: $85, Non-members: $100

Maximum Class Size: 9

About the Class:  Come create your own flag book! With simple materials and attention to detail, we'll move step by step into creating a flag book, so called because its pages are small, like flags. I created one (pictured) entitled "Flags" and listed some of the times when I saw red flag warnings that I did not pay attention to at the time. I added white flags of wonderful events that have occurred in my life. There is also a pocket for extra flags for future events. We'll have plenty of time to creatively play.

What will your flag book contain? Come to class with a topic or create the book to fill in later. Gardens? Trees? Grandkids? Family? Animals?   All you need is a bold willingness to try something new!

Supplies:  All supplies are provided. BYO tools: exacto knife, ruler, healing pad for table protection, images, scissors, pencil, handmade papers (I will bring some, too, for the covers), close-up glasses if you need them, etc.   Before class time, consider what you want your flag book to hold. (Such as: What is one of your passions? Or maybe a word to explore. Or yin/yang comparisons...). If you want to bring images, feel free. I will have some adhesives.

Artist Bio:  Kate Stockman relishes creating and teaching, and she is happiest when she is doing both at the same time. A bookbinder, Kate is also an assemblage jewelry artist focusing on vintage sterling silver and a collage/paper artist. She calls her work "TouchStones Anecdotal Art (each piece tells a story; perhaps it touches your story)". Kate believes that all art is a vessel of Spirit and designs her classes to honor that belief, creating a safe, non-judgmental environment for all. Kate and her wood-turner husband Andrew live just outside of Saluda in a little cabin in the woods. She is grateful.
