About the Instructor/Artist: My name is Bill Abel and I live in Hendersonville, NC. I have painted watercolors since I was a kid and I've been painting and teaching watercolors professionally for over 30 years. Painting the portrait is something I began in 1997 under the instruction of Joseph McFadden. Joe introduced me to Daniel E. Greene's method for drawing the portrait using 4 lines to segment the face. Joe also introduced me to painting with a primary palette, using the primary colors: Red, blue and yellow, plus sepia for tinting. Simplifying this process of painting watercolor portraits was a game-changer for me, and lead me to become a portrait painter throughout my career. When I teach painting I want to share what I love about watercolors and remove the stigma that painting with watercolors is hard. The challenge is not the medium but rather the method. The key to methodology is simply to practice, practice a lot.
