Location: The Art Place Studio Classroom
Fee: Member 200.00, Non-Member 225.00 for five sessions
Maximum Class Size: 6
About the Class: This is a five week course where students can explore a wide range of techniques. Advanced artists are encouraged to bring works in progress to complete. Although starting with the basics seems elementary, it is good to review and practice these techniques such as the basics of brush strokes, washes, dry brushing, hard and soft edges through motor control paper exercises and learning water to pigment ratios. Karen will demonstrate for you the techniques she has learned from Master watercolorists like Zoltan Szabo, Tom Lynich and Barbara Nechis. See her work at her studio in the Art Place Studio, 2015 Asheville Highway.
Supplies: Bring what you have.
Be sure to include at least one 1" flat watercolor brush, also round brushes various sizes, rigger, and palette knife
140 cold press paper or 300 cold press,
quality watercolor paint in a tube: suggested colors are Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Raw sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Antwerp Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue and any yellow and any true red.
a palette, masking tape, masking fluid, a foam core board if you do not have a block of paper,
2 containers for water, paper towels.
Artist Bio: The paintings of Karen Catlett, a native of Wheeling, West Virginia reflect her love and appreciation for nature and flowers. A keen observer of the world around her, Karen draws upon her extensive travel experiences as a source of subject matter, and her studies with some of America's finest watercolor artists for new ways ot express her subjects. The result is a style of painting with a harmonious balance of emotional energy and visual beauty. She has sever awards and is signature member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and the West Virginia Watercolor Society.
