Event Description

Instructor: Kara Ashley-Gilmore

Date: January 11, 10:00am to 12:30 pm

Location: The Art Place Studio Classroom

Fee: Members: $30 + 10, Non-members: $45.00 + 10

Maximum Class Size: 12

About the Class:  Join us as we create multi-layered vision boards which incorporate aspects of our identities, goals, guiding words for this next phase of life, symbols, poems, quotes, and space to add additional elements over time. Like you, your vision board is layered & dynamic. It is meant to shift, change, and develop as you experience joys and challenges throughout your life.

Think of this process as an invitation to bring forward the experiences you want more of:
-How do you want to feel?
-What theme do you want to explore?
-What could all of this look like?

We will incorporate writing, painting, simple doodle-drawing, and collage. My hope is that you’ll feel the freedom to experiment and play, so you’ll leave this workshop with a completed vision board that is uniquely yours, and that you’ll be excited to view and reference throughout time.

Supplies:   The supply fee covers one 17x13 bulletin board for each participant. Additionally, various papers, magazines, craft paints, collage materials, markers, and ephemera will be available to share. You are welcome to bring any photographs or poems that you would like to include on your vision board.

Artist Bio:  Kara Ashley-Gilmore believes in the use of our innate creativity for our wellness and healing. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and a mixed-media artist at the Art Place Studios, in Hendersonville. As an artist, Kara paints intuitively, often incorporating bright colors with layers of paint, text, and collage, to process life and express themes of hope and encouragement. Art-making has always been an important part of her self-care, and her studio is her personal space to experiment and play. Ultimately, all of her work is about helping people be more creative, use their creativity for personal growth, and incorporate creativity into their daily lives. Her art therapy workshops are tailored to those who appreciate opportunities for creative exploration–with gentle guidance–in a non-judgemental, quiet atmosphere.

Like all art-making, this workshop may be therapeutic, but it is not a substitute for therapy. Privacy in the Art Place Studio classroom is not guaranteed. We ask that all attendees keep confidentiality: Don’t share other group members’ stories or personal information without express permission. You are welcome to share your experiences and insights using “I-statements,” but refrain from advice-giving or problem-solving for others unless specifically requested.
