About the Class: There be gnomes here! Join Susan Prater Crowe as she guides you along on an adventure in Powertex. This whimsical gourd gnome is sure to bring good cheer and a touch of nature into your home for the holidays. But be warned, this class is for the kid at heart who enjoys a little messy fun! We will learn how to incorporate fabric, naturally found objects and artificial floral elements into one project. Students will learn the ins and outs of how to dip and drape fabric on sculptures using Powertex Textile Hardener. Woody’s hat will be built from everyday household materials. Feel free to bring any of your favorite natural items or silk floral elements that you would like to incorporate into his woodland hat. The completed project measures approximately 12 - 14" tall by 7-8" wide depending on the shape of the gourd. All skill levels are welcome.
Supplies:
The instructor will provide:
A cleaned and cut kettle gourd, filled, and weighted for balance.
All Powertex materials and art supplies to complete the project.
After the class, instruction sheets and a supply list outlining the complete project will be emailed to participants.
Students must bring:
A box of disposable gloves.
A heat gun.
An apron or smock.
Artist Bio: Susan Prater Crowe, aka SPC, is a multidimensional explorer and mixed media enthusiast. Her passion for art is inspired by never-ending curiosity and a fascination with the exciting world of experimental art mediums. The eclectic nature of Susan’s art is often characterized by layers of depth, infused with colorful lyricism, resonance, and a plethora of tactile surfaces. She has become known for her animated and creative approach to composition, sculpture, abstract painting, and assemblage. Her unique and proficient teaching style implores the imagination as it unleashes a treasure trove of possibilities and interpretations.
